The Larimar pendant is a beautiful piece of jewelry with its color resembling that of a calming sea. The tale and history of the larimar stone begins in 1974 when it was mined for the first time in the Dominican Republic. A Peace Corps volunteer by the name of Miguel Mendez came upon a piece of larimar gemstone lying along the coastline. The discovery gave him the right to name the beautiful stone, and he found it an honor to name it after his daughter Larissa. He combined her name with the word "mar" meaning sea in Spanish because of its strikingly similarity to the blue hue of the ocean waters.
Today, the larimar stone is often used to make stunning pendants, earrings, and necklaces. Like the sea it resembles, the stone has been claimed to have calming effects for both physical and spiritual wellness. You'll see it very commonly paired with different stones of varying colors to create that perfect elegant piece. The gemstone works exceedingly well with silver stones, but can also work with those of gold and copper.
