Oregon sunstone is also known as heliolite and is mined in Harney County, Oregon just as the name states. Sunstone gemstones can also be found in Southern Norway or Siberia. Sunstone belongs to the feldspar group (minerals distinguished by the presence of silica and alumina in their chemistry). which includes stones such as amazonite and moonstone. Sunstone beads have a shimmering sparkle that is almost metallic, and this effect is called aventurescense which is caused by reflective inclusions. The inclusions can be copper, hematite, or other minerals. However, not all sunstones contain that aventurescense.

Oregon sunstone, known as a stone of joy, is thought to inspire a pleasure of life.
