The larimar stone is a very precious and rare gem found only in the Dominican Republic. Larimar beads with their swirling patterns of blue and white are like eddies in the ocean made physical. Wrap these larimar beads in silver, copper, or gold to use as necklaces or earrings. Supposedly, the larimar stone was discovered in 1916 but it was not until 1974 that it was mined. These larimar cabochons have some brown marbling, like streaks of sand under the Caribbean sea.
Even though the larimar stone has not been on the jewelry scene for very long, it already has a lot of mystical myths surrounding it. Some people call the larimar stone the Atlantis stone because of a legend telling of the Dominican Republic being where the lost city of Atlantis was.
