Sugilite is a rare gemstone harvested from South Africa's Wessels mine in the Kalahari Desert. The sugilite gem can be made synthetically in China, but these sugilite cabochons were purchased from a reputable gem dealer and are grade AAA, of highest quality. The colors of the sugilite cabochons are the famous purple with streaks and dots of darker purple for contrast. With yellow gold as a juxtaposing feature, these sugalite cabochons would look splendid and noble. Sugilite is named after the Japanese man who first discovered it, Ken-ich Sugi.
