Freshwater pearls have been with us in the form of jewelry since time immemorial. Actually, real pearls are so ingrained in our culture as signs of elegance and class that we see them as a part of the person itself. The best two examples of this are the Simpson ladies, Marge and Lisa, who are constantly shown wearing pearls and always stand up for what is right and proper. Pearls are created in nature when a stray particle enters the body of a mollusk, but we can also goad oysters into creating some for us in huge pearl farms.
Natural pearls work best when used for creating custom necklaces, bracelets and earrings. There are many different forms of pearls used in jewelry, but perhaps the three most widely known ones are cabochons, pendants and beads. No matter which design or shape you go with, pearls will impart plenty of subtle class and exclusivity onto an item. Feel free to experiment and combine pearls with other gemstones, such as quartz and aquamarine.
