The onyx gemstone is a member of the chalcedony family, and the strength and clarity of chalcedony stones are also featured in onyx. These onyx beads are teardrops of brilliant green. If real teardrops looked as beautiful as these beads, we would cry all of the time, out of happiness! The onyx gemstone gets its name from a Greek myth involving the fingernails of Venus being cut. According to the myth, the clipped nails turned into onyx as they hit the ground. Green onyx beads don't represent the clippings of nails though. They are much more beautiful!
Green onyx gemstones are thought by some to bring a sense of renewal to their wearers. Like the earth after a fresh spring rain, or the mind after a much-needed cry, green onyx gemstones have been known to comfort and sooth.
