The larimar stone has been called by many names in the short time it has been known to humans, including the Atlantis stone, the dolphin stone, and the Caribbean stone. These larimar beads show why there has been much fascination with these swirling, dreamy gems. With the blue of the purest water in the Dominican Republic, the only place in the world that Larimar is found, and the white foam of ocean waves, these larimar cabochons capture the heart and imagination and take them down to the beach, where we all want to be.
The larimar stone gets its proper name from two things, its discoverer's daughter Larissa, and the Spanish word for sea, "mar." Because the larimar stone simultaneously resembles the blue of the Caribbean and of the friendly dolphins that swim through the waters, it acquired those two names. Most intriguingly, the larimar stone got its final name, the Atlantis stone, because some people believe the lost city of Atlantis was were the Dominican Republic now is.
