Discovered in 1944 and declared a precious gem in 1980, sugilite is a named after the man who discovered it, Ken-ichi Sugi. Sugi discovered deposits of sugilite in Japan, but today the best sugilite comes from South Africa, like these grade AAA sugilite cabochons. The sugilite stone is often associated with success, and some people even believe that wearing it can help one focus on achieving their goals.

These sugilite gems in cabochon form are all natural sugilite from South Africa's famous Wessels mine. A lot of sugilite on the market today is a cheap imitation made in China, but these sugilite gems were originally purchased for a hefty price from a reputable gem dealer. Because these are such high quality, grade AAA African sugilite gems, the wholesale price of $6 per gram cannot get much better.
